High School Senior Portraits in Richmond VA | Canal Walk RVA

I've been so excited to share this blog post with you all! I had the best evening at the Canal Walk in Richmond with Emily, her mom and dad during her senior portrait session!  It's been a couple of years since my last senior session and I was really looking forward to doing another. Here's the crazy thing, all 3 of my senior sessions have included the mural wall at The Canal Walk!  I knew this was going to be an amazing session because, although technically I am old enough to be her mother ( a very young mother ;) Emily and I have a lot in common. Not only do we share a love for Winnie-the-Pooh, but Emily is a budding photographer and into vintage cameras! A girl after my own heart. Emily plans to study graphic design next year. Perhaps she will design my next logo or website :)

Given the information I had about Emily a vision popped into my head and I couldn't wait to run it passed her. I envisioned Emily surrounded by polaroid pictures of her senior year or pictures of her growing up. I was very excited when Emily loved the idea and I was even more excited when I was trolling through her Instagram page and saw a very cool vintage Polaroid camera, it was going to be pretty awesome!

Emily wanted some pictures down at The Canal Walk and also liked my vintage couch that she'd seen in one of my blog posts so we planned to start the session in a field near my house with the couch and then head to The Canal Walk. I love that Emily included her sister and puppy in a few pictures! My sister is my best friend and I wish we had pictures like this when we were young. I suppose it's never too late.

Everything about the evening was amazing! Emily is an absolute natural in front of the camera and is such a sweet and mature young lady. It was so nice getting to know her. Her parents are very fun down-to-earth people and it was easy to see why Emily is such a wonderful young woman.

At the end of the evening we raced against time to make it to Sunday Park in Midlothian to catch the sunset on the reservoir. I'm always looking for ways to grow and improve and am currently working on mastering off camera flash. I'm a natural light photographer and love shooting in natural light, but there's a whole world of possibilities waiting beyond the sun!  Emily was willing to try out some off camera flash with me and her dad was willing to be my portable light stand. He did an awesome job and I think I may start bringing him on all of my shoots!

Well, enough rambling. Get ready to be blown away by this beauty!!! Emily have an amazing senior year and I wish you much love and happiness in all the years a head of you!
