My Family Portraits Behind The Scenes: Wardrobe Selection | Sarah Kane Photography
Well, it's that time of year again. Time for me to try and squeeze in my own family portraits during the busiest season of the year! Oh and did I mention we moved into a 2 bedroom apartment (on the 3rd floor) last week for the next 6 months while we wait for our new home to be built? I know...waa, waa, waa.
It's the one time of year I get to experience exactly what all of my clients go through. Trying to coordinate outfits is a nightmare with my family. First my children don't own one nice article of clothing. Their wardrobes consist of black and neon sports apparel from Target because they refuse to wear anything else. Not only do I have to purchase an entire outfit from head to toe for each child yearly it will be the one and only time they wear it.
My kids are pretty strong willed and have a style all their own (yes, I know exactly where they get it from). I gave up the dream of having fashionably well dressed children years ago and decided to let them express themselves and make their own decisions when it comes to their clothes. Even if it's the wrong decision. As a trade off, I require just once a year, that I am completely in control of clothing for family portraits. School portraits, by all means wear your paint stained Star Wars shirt. Doesn't bother me one bit (any more), BUT on this sacred day of family pictures you WILL wear what I pick out for you or your sweet life of electronics and laughter will be no more.
Don't even get me started on my husband. He is at least cooperative during the photos, but he too does not own one nice article of clothing and is a total pain in the...well you'll see in the video. Fingers crossed that this year will be different. Please send all positive energy, vibes, prayers. I'll need it all.
