The number one question I am asked (and often the only question I am asked) by potential clients for newborn photography is “how much does a newborn session cost?”. Although this is an important factor, depending on your family’s budget, it should never be the only question asked.

There are so many things you have to do to prepare for your newborns arrival and you may be feeling a lot of stress and anxiety over it. The last thing you may be thinking about is what questions to ask newborn photographers other than pricing. You are not alone!

A few essential questions you should be asking while researching newborn photographers is how long have you been professionally photographing newborns? How many newborns have you photographed? What eduction have you received that qualifies you as an expert in newborn photography?

Your newborn will be photographed within the first 2 weeks of birth during their most vulnerable and fragile state. Don’t make the mistake of handing your baby over to someone you know very little about and chose because they were a good price. Newborn photography is an investment and you want to choose someone who has also invested their time and resources in continued education. Newborn photography is so different from any other type of photography. It requires a great deal of learning posing techniques, preparation before a session and during, investment in props, lighting, and time learning all of aspects that are involved in newborn photography.
