Just as I couldn't imagine a life without my family I could not imagine a life without music. It is much more than entertainment. For me music is peace. It's how I express myself best.  I discovered the depths that music could take me to at the age of 16 when I was first introduced to Janis Joplin.  Although she had already moved on from this world many years earlier, her voice and story lived on.  When she sang I felt her every fear, heartache, pain, sorrow and yes even her joy.  Her music got me through many difficult times. During my junior year of college I decided to take a crack at guitar. I was terrible. We were forced to tune by ear which proved to be a bit of a challenge. Each class my instructor would scan the room with a look of discern on his face trying to pick out the one guitar that was off from everyone else and without fail he always landed at my feet. Needless to say I didn't continue on to the second course. Guitar didn't end for me there though. I was living for the first time on my own without roommates and couldn't afford cable, with little else to do I wanted to learn just one song, Me and Bobby McGee by the great Janis Joplin. I accomplished my goal and went on to set more including songwriting, performing live, join a band, and eventually sing solo. The first band I was in was a classic rock & blues band called Along for the Ride. It was a great experience and I had a lot of fun, but being a frontman in a band proved to not really be my thing and I searched many years for a partner to form an acoustic duo with. Ten years later I finally met my musical soulmate Ryan. I had posted an add on a community bulletin board at El Wood Thompson's Cafe (back before it was Burger Bach). She saw it, answered it and we've been the greatest of friends ever since. We loved the same type of music and found out we had so many other things in common as well. A couple years later we officially started playing out calling our 2 woman band Graceful Lily. We play mostly covers and our favorite place to play is Cooper Vineyard in Louisa.  I haven't written a song in several years, but Ryan and I are hoping to start focusing more on original music. Stay tuned...
