How To Prepare For 1 Year Baby Portraits | Richmond Virginia's Best Child Photographer

1 Year Portraits

You made it through the first year! Your baby’s personality is really starting to form now and it is so much run capturing this on camera. The following are tips to help prepare you for your session.

CLOTHING

  • Up to 3 outfits. We will have a 45-60 minute window before your baby has had enough of pictures. Too many outfit changes will cut into our time and risk making your baby cranky, so please limit clothing to 3 outfits.

WHAT SARAH KANE PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDES

  • Background paper, chairs, stools and any other props that Sarah Kane Photography currently owns.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Baby’s favorite snack

  • Back up bottle or sippy cup

  • Baby’s favorite toy that makes them smile

  • Stuffed friends that could join in the pictures

  • Some other suggestions that could keep your baby in one place and happy that would also look cute in portraits are

          • Favorite book

          • Blocks (I have some in studio)

          • Rocking horse

          • Dolls

          • Trucks/Cars

          • Baby blanket

          • Something for them to stand and hold on to (I have a small white wooden bench)

Before Your Session

  • Make sure your baby is well fed before the session and well rested. A tired and hungry baby is an unhappy baby.

REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS

As you know babies are unpredictable. It is important to have realistic expectations. Don’t be surprised if your baby gets infant of the camera and looks like a deer in headlights. It often takes them awhile to warm up and get used to where they are.

The best thing you can do is keep your stress level low and keep things calm. Please do not bring more than 2 adults. Chaos combined with an unfamiliar environment is a recipe for disaster.
