lifestyle family portraits in Richmond VA | Sarah Kane Photography

Another fabulous family photography portrait session with the Larson family in the great Richmond VA. A city which I have grown to love since we moved here 6 years ago! This family is very special to me because they were among one of my very first "real" clients back when I was Dia Marie Photography and they've stuck with as I grew and evolved into Sarah Kane Photography. I photographed their oldest son Jaden when he turned 1-years-old, I took maternity photos of Nikki when she was pregnant with baby Alex and have taken family pictures for them every year since.  It really is a special thing to be able to watch a family grow! I l love seeing how the kids change and grow into their own little personalities. Jaden and Alex are doing just that!

I'm a huge fan of lifestyle photography, which is when the focus is more on candid moments rather than posed pictures. The Larson's are also fans of this style of photography, so I am even more excited when I get to photograph them! Jaden wasn't very happy when we first started on this particular day, which was unusual because normally he warms up to me very quickly. We tried everything, but none of our shenanigans were working.  There was only one thing that was going to make this little guy happy and that was the playground. He spotted it and couldn't get to it fast enough. I'm so glad he did because it allowed me to capture genuine happiness on both Jaden and Alex's faces! In my opinion there is no greater thing than seeing your children filled with happiness, laughter, and pure joy! The fact that I am able to capture these moments for families is just one of the many reasons why I love being a photographer!! I used to call it my job, but it really doesn't feel like a job (well maybe when I am up until 2am editing it starts to feel like a job) but just a little ;) Sometimes I still can't believe that this is my life. I am grateful every day to all of those who have made this possible and the Larson's are just one of many!
