I can't say enough about this family! It was such an honor meeting and photographing them. The bond they all share is undeniable! They had everything needed for an amazing Portrait Experience.  My job is to know my camera, composition and lighting, but the family has some jobs too that can really take the portraits to the next level.

What a huge convenience living so close to the very beautiful Brandermill's Sunday Park in Midlothian VA. Another amazing spot for family portraits! The best time to visit Sunday park is about an hour before sunset.  The sun setting over the reservoir is truly breathtaking!  I am so thankful to live in this community.  Every time I drive home I feel like I'm escaping into a resort far from the rest of the world!

The sunset was not a disappointment for Charles's birthday photo shoot and  the sky was on fire as were Charles and his little brother Edward! Are they not the most adorable duo ever? Their mom Jess has such a unique style and fashion sense. Charles and Edward were definitely dressed to impress. I loved everything about their outfits!  A great touch with the red and yellow streaming scarves that flowed as they ran along the shore line,  just perfect!

Is it really that time of year already? Where has the summer gone? It seems as though fall is here (at least in the morning). Fall is actually my favorite time of year. I love the changing leaves, cool winds and my warm sweaters. The only downside to fall is the fact that inevitably winter follows and the lack of daylight.  One of the many things I love about Richmond is the length of fall. When I lived in Ohio fall seemed to role out as quickly as it blew in. By the end of October fall was on it's way out and winter on it's way in. I love that it doesn't really get cold her until late December, if only the leaves would stay on the trees and we didn't have to change the clocks!

Elizabeth won the bid of a Sarah Kane Photography package during Swift Creek Elementary's spring fling silent auction fundraiser! She was hoping for fall weather so the family could wear sweaters for their portrait session and thankfully mother nature delivered! I met Elizabeth and her family at Sunday Park in Midlothian and was so impressed at how polite her children were. I was also impressed at how cooperative and excited they were to get their pictures taken, especially the boys! That doesn't happen often.

We walked along the reservoir looking for pockets of good light and luckily found many! The kids were willing to do anything I asked. I love when my families are adventurous and willing to risk falling into a large body of water to get a good picture! When you're willing to take a chance your pictures are that much better! The Holme's family didn't hesitate to climb out onto some uneven unbalanced rocks. It took awhile to position everyone safely and I watched with my camera ready in case anyone fell in (oh relax, the water wasn't that deep). Although it would have made for great pictures (I'm possibly the only one who would have viewed it that way) thankfully no one went in, everyone stayed dry and we got some spectacular pictures! Another great session with a wonderful family! I have the best job every!! Thank you Holme's family!

Oh, hello there Mr. Squirrel!

I love when kids come up with their own ideas. Something for parents to embarrass them with down the road ;)

I consider myself to be a "life photographer". I photograph people's lives and tell their story through pictures and I love every moment of it! I have met so many wonderful people through photography and am always touched to witness all of the love and happiness that families share. From weddings, to maternity, to newborns, to watching families grow I am so fortunate to be a part of it and couldn't imagine doing anything else!

For the past 3 years I've donated a photography package to my son's preschool at Primrose for their annual spring fling silent auction. All of the proceeds raised goes to charity, so I am always more than happy to do it! This year the Crabtree family won the package which was absolutely perfect seeing as they were just a few short weeks away from meeting their second son Jacob! At just 7 days old I got to meet him and the entire Crabtree family and be apart of this exciting new adventure they're on. Before even meeting them I had been emailing with Ryan (dad) making arrangements and his excitement and pride for his family was so evident that I knew this was going to be an awesome photo shoot and it was! Andrea (mom) a week after giving birth and mother of two boys just 18 months apart didn't seem a bit tired or overwhelmed.  The absolute sweetest thing I've seen was Big brother Brandon holding his dad's ear like a security blanket. He also loved giving hugs (more like smothers) and kisses to his new built in best friend! My sister and I are only 19 months apart and nobody knows me better than she does. Although we fought like crazy we did everything together and she is definitely my absolute best friend.  Well, enough about me let's meet this lovely family shall we?

Now that Brandon's in his own environment you'll really see his personality shine!

Get ready for some serious cuteness overload!!

Spring Mini 2014 | Sunday Park in Brandermill | Sarah Kane Photography

This year not only did I add a spring mini to my calender, but decided to offer some evening sessions as well! My morning session was located at the beautiful Armour House & Gardens at Meadowview Park in Henrico.  One of the most beautiful locations for an evening shoot is right along the reservoir at Sunday Park in Brandermill.  The light off of the water is just amazing! Here are a few of my favorites from the evening!

(see morning session favorites here)

My sister and her family just happened to show up at the park all dressed up. They claim they were eating at the Boat House for my brother-in-law's birthday. Mmm hmm...right ;)

I am very excited to share this family portrait session with you all! This is the family who won my facebook contest and received this session absolutely free!

What a privilege it was to photograph this family!  Little Miss Anaiya was so cooperative and sweet! It didn't take her long to warm up to the camera especially when she put on her ballerina Easter dress and started to twirl, that's when I saw her beautiful unique personality shine! I had so many favorites from this session. It was hard narrowing it down for the blog!

The best part of my job is capturing the love and real connection families share. There is no greater gift on earth! This family made it so easy to capture those moments. Prepare yourself to fall in love with Miss Anaiya, I certainly did!

I've never had anyone ask to take MY picture during a session. "Miss Sarah, I want to take your picture". You don't say no to a face like that. She did a pretty good job too! Thank you Anaiya!
