Trailside Tree House in Richmond Virginia
The Trailside Treehouse was by far one of the best experiences my family has encountered. I heard about the Treehouse a couple of years ago and new this was a place we had to stay. This spring I started looking at dates and it just so happened they had an opening (one of the few openings still available) on my son’s 11th birthday, so I booked it. When we arrived we were greeted by Carrie (the host) her children and Huck (their chocolate Lab). You may feel a little weird at first because the treehouse is in their backyard and you pull into their driveway, but the minute you meet Carrie she puts you right at ease!

Are you looking for a unique location for your portrait session? I spend a lot of time scouting the Richmond VA area for locations that are beautifully unique and not too crowded! This is one of my favorite spots that I’ve found. It’s simple, beautiful and has the most amazing light (on a sunny day that is)! If you love nature this would be the perfect spot for you!

What are you looking for in a newborn photographer? There is one thing that should be at the very top of your concern list and that is newborn safety!! There are no regulations or training required in the newborn photography industry, so how do you know that your photographer is qualified for the job? Don’t be afraid to ask your newborn photographer a lot of questions. The more you know about your photographer the more comfortable you will feel about them working with your brand new baby! The most important questions though I would ask is how do ensure the safety of newborns during a photoshoot? Do the work with an assistant? These are important questions to know before you schedule.

What to Expect During A Newborn Photography Session
A newborn portrait session typically lasts 2-3 hours. The length of the session will depend on the needs of your baby! Most sessions last an average of 2 hours, but plan for 3 hours just in case. Don’t worry though in Sarah Kane Photography’s studio you will enjoy complimentary snacks and drinks while relaxing on the sofa just a few feet away from your baby! Feel free to bring a book, listen to music, fill out thank you cards or take a much needed nap, but most importantly relax. Your baby is in good hands!

Did you know some newborn studios do not allow parents in the room during portraits? This is an important question to ask before booking a session. I have no doubt that studios with this requirement are safe and your baby is in good hands, however if you are unaware of this it may take you by surprise when you arrive for your portraits. If you are not emotionally prepared to be separated from your newborn during portraits it could cause for a very stressful experience.
