Cake Smash in Richmond VA | 1 Year Portraits in Midlothian VA

If you’re looking for ideas for something other than a cake smash for your soon-to-be one year old’s portraits why not create the theme around his/her favorite food? I just love this simple newborn session that is filled with neutral earth tones for this sweet baby girl! Don’t get me wrong, I do love some bold colors, but I also love the simplicity of neutrals and this little lady really pulled them off! And can we talk about that hair? I get so excited when I see a newborn come into the studio with a head full of hair!

This is one of my favorite locations for a maternity photography session! I spent a great deal of time scouting for the perfect location for water maternity photoshoots and I happened upon this little oasis! I’ve had other photographers and potential clients ask where this is and I’ve politely let them know that this one is my secret place reserved only for myself and clients!

When Should You Schedule a Newborn Photography Session? | Newborn Portraits in Richmond VA

The newborn phase is very brief. In a few short weeks after your baby’s birth he/she will begin to become more alert. They will begin to fill out and just like that they are no longer a newborn. For newborn studio portraits it’s important to photograph newborns within the first 3 weeks of birth. In my years of experience I find the 2nd week to be the sweet spot. In order to pose a newborn they must be sleepy and relaxed and still flexible for posing.
