There are sessions that stop you mid edit and remind you exactly why you fell in love with photography. This was one of them.
When this gorgeous mama reached out to Sarah Kane Photography to document her pregnancy, we knew we wanted something magical, and The Carillon in Richmond, Virginia delivered in every way. With its sweeping stone walls, open meadow paths, and golden hour light filtering through the freshly spring trees, it’s one of the most stunning outdoor locations in the Richmond area, and it absolutely stole the show.

Against the warm, muted tones of the late season meadow grasses and the cool gray stone, the beautiful purple of the gown was nothing short of breathtaking. Her partner coordinated perfectly in a deep purple dress shirt beneath a charcoal tweed blazer, creating a cohesive and elegant pairing that photographed beautifully.
We began the session along the historic stone wall at The Carillon, where the late afternoon sun glowed golden. Solo portraits of the mom leaning against the wall, eyes closed, hands cradling her bump make the most beautiful photos.

As dad joined in, their connection was palpable. Laughter, tender glances, hands interlacing over the bump, it’s always a joy to witness couples in this season of anticipation. There’s a particular kind of happiness that expectant parents carry, and capturing it is one of the greatest privileges of this work.
For a good portion of this session we were in a golden meadow, where a stunning floral crown of soft peach roses, blush blooms, and sage succulents completed the look. The setting sun backlit the dried grasses with a warm, almost ethereal glow, the kind of light photographers dream about. Mom glowed, Dad beamed. And we loved every moment.
