Senior year goes by in the blink of an eye, and these portraits are proof that slowing down to celebrate it is absolutely worth it. This stunning session captures everything I love about spring senior portraits: golden natural light, blooming flowers in every direction, and a senior who was completely, effortlessly herself in front of the camera. Get ready to be inspired, because this gallery is everything.

From the moment she stepped onto location in her perfectly chosen pink ruffle dress and cowboy boots, I knew this session was going to be something special. That combination, feminine and sweet, with just a little edge, said so much about her personality before we even took a single shot. Choosing an outfit that reflects who you are is one of the most important parts of a senior session, and she absolutely nailed it.

We photographed at one of my favorite spring locations near Richmond, Virginia. A dreamy spot with blooming azaleas in deep magenta pink and a breathtaking canopied tree lined path that practically glows in the soft spring light. Every direction we turned, there was another stunning backdrop waiting. That’s the beauty of spring senior sessions, nature does half the work for us.

If you’re a rising senior (or the parent of one!) and you haven’t thought about spring sessions, let me make the case: spring in central Virginia is absolutely stunning. Blooms are everywhere — azaleas, dogwoods, wisteria — and the soft, diffused light on overcast spring days is a portrait photographer’s dream. Sessions have a fresh, vibrant energy that is completely different from the warm tones of fall, and the variety of color and texture in spring landscapes gives your gallery incredible variety.
Booking your senior session in the spring of your junior year, or early in your senior year, also means you have your portraits ready well ahead of senior year deadlines for yearbook submissions, announcements, and gifts for family.
