I just love that smile big brother is giving! He was so sweet with his newborn baby sister and very easy to photograph!! You never know what to expect when photographing toddlers, but he was an angel!!
You may be wondering how to keep a newborn asleep for their portrait session. There are no guarantees of course. Newborns are going to do whatever their instincts tell them, but there are some things parents can do at home a head of time for a better chance of a sleepy baby!
One tip is to keep baby awake for 1-2 hours before the session. It’s important though that you don’t keep them awake longer. Newborns need to sleep and if they are awake for too long they may become over tired and really hard to settle! 1 - 2 hours is the ideal time!
There is something truly magical about the first few days of a newborn’s life, the tiny fingers, the velvety soft skin, the way they curl up just like they did in the womb. At Sarah Kane Photography in Chesterfield, Virginia, we specialize in capturing these fleeting, irreplaceable moments so your family can treasure them forever.
There is something incredibly special about photographing newborn twins—twice the tiny fingers, twice the sleepy smiles, and a bond that’s already beautifully evident from the very beginning. These two baby girls were truly a dream to photograph here in the studio, and sessions like this are a reminder of why I love what I do so much.
Newborn sessions are one of my favorite things to photograph. I love working with babies and their parents during these first days. Every session is different, and I always follow the baby’s pace.

I first met this sweet family during their maternity session before their first daughter arrived. I had the joy of photographing that little girl’s newborn portraits too, watching this family bloom from two to three. So when mama reached out to tell me they were expecting again, I was beyond thrilled.
