Spring Cherry Blossom Family Portraits in Richmond Virginia

Some sessions feel like a reunion. This one always does. I've been photographing this sweet family for several years now, and every single time I meet them on location, I'm struck all over again by how much has changed — and how much has stayed beautifully, warmly the same.

This spring, we met under a canopy of white cherry blossoms as the golden hour light filtered through the branches and spilled across the green grass below. The setting was dreamy, but honestly? This family would make any backdrop look stunning.

One of my favorite things about photographing the same family over time is watching the children grow into themselves. The older son has stepped into such a confident, warm presence — you can see it in the way he carries himself, the ease in his smile. And yet the moment his little sister is near, all that teenage coolness melts into the most genuine, tender big-brother affection.

The little girl is pure magic. She has a spark about her that lights up every single frame — bold, joyful, completely herself. Watching her go from a toddler to the spirited, expressive girl she is today has been one of the greatest privileges of my career.

I always love to sneak in a little action — something spontaneous that lets everyone forget the camera for a moment. The blanket toss is a tradition at this point, and every year it delivers pure joy. The laughter is always real, the chaos is always beautiful, and the light never fails to cooperate.

These two. The sibling bond captured in this session genuinely made me tear up behind the lens. He is so proud of his little sister, and she absolutely adores him. These are the photographs they'll treasure for the rest of their lives — the ones that remind them, years from now, of who they were to each other during these fleeting, golden childhood years.
