This newborn session took place in my cozy studio here in Chesterfield, just outside Richmond and a short drive from Petersburg. Studio newborn sessions are designed to feel calm, warm, and unhurried—everything is set up to keep baby comfortable while creating soft, timeless images.
This sweet boy was photographed within the ideal newborn window, which is within the first four weeks after birth. During this time, babies are typically sleepier and more easily settled into gentle poses. While he was still very much in that newborn stage, he’s also what I lovingly call a big baby—strong, healthy, and wonderfully solid for his age. Those sweet cheeks and full features photographed beautifully and gave his images such a grounded, cozy feel.

One of the things I love most about studio newborn sessions is having complete control over the environment. From temperature and lighting to carefully selected props and textures, everything is intentionally chosen to keep the focus on your baby. This session included warm wood tones, natural textures, and a soft bear-inspired outfit that added just a hint of personality without distracting from his features.

If you’re expecting, I always recommend scheduling newborn photography during pregnancy and planning for the session to take place within the first 2–4 weeks after birth. That said, every baby is different, and part of my role is adjusting the session to meet your baby exactly where they are.
